Setting up your work area and what tools you might need
It is not an expensive exercise to set up for modelling, just a few basic tools and products will get you started.
Here is a very good product which is available from Battlefield. The belts are made of a type of fabric (textile) and are enhanced with PE parts and very tiny decals. Assembly of the belts and buckles is straight forward but a very sharp knife is required to cut the fabric belts.
Threading the belt through the PE parts is very easy and a small drop of CA at the back holds them very well to the belt. The tiny decal eyelets are very fiddly but finish the belts of nicely. A coat of matt clear after the belts are fitted to the seat adds to the appearance. I dirtied the belts a little with a dark coloured pastel.
They are a bit more expensive than PE belts but I highly recommend them simply because of their good looks.
Kings Road Miniatures have this figure available. It is cast in white metal and is 1:32 scale. It would make a great addition to any dio scene. Check their web site for other figures in their range.
Available from the Model Cellar are these beautiful figures of airmen from WW1. They are very well detailed not only in their facial expressions but their clothing as well. These figures are definitely worth the expense and once painted would certainly compliment any WW1 diorama. Check their web site for other figures in other scales. http://www.modelcellar.com

Here is a set of hand tools which are perfect for adding that touch of realism to any diorama scene. Made and supplied by vectorcut.com they are beautifully cut and very well detailed. The process used is laser cut and relief engraved in .0145” laserboard resulting in very accurate and highly detailed miniatures. Beside the tool set is a nut/bolt and washer set also very highly detailed and beautifully cut. These are perfect for detailing engines, prop hubs, undercarriage and many more applications.
Just released are these two sets of very thin washer, my measurements make them at only 0.28mm thick. The washers come in four sizes, the first set has 2.3mm and 1.9mm washer, the second set has 1.75mm washers and 1.45mm washers. These washers are laser cut so have a very clean crisp edge. These washer will mate perfectly with the Vector Cut nuts to give a completely realistic appearance to your model.
These six new resin figures in 1:32 scale (54mm) are now available from Tommy’s War. They are brilliant in detail with very life like poses, these would be a wonderful addition to any diorama setting. I have been in contact with the company and they have indicated that they will be producing WW1 aviation figures in the near future, figures like pilots, seated pilots, mechanics, officers and ground crew. These type of figures are sadly lacking in the 1:32 scale WW1 aviation genre so a release of such figures will be greatly accepted by the WW1 aviation modelers.
